Continuing from my previous post Getting Around Portugal Part 1, below are more information to broaden your choice of transportation in Portugal.
Coach
One of the good way to get to know places of interest in Portugal is to travel by coach. Coach services are convenient and cheap. they are expressor ordinary coaches for you to pick which linking the country’s main cities and towns all over Portugal. Since it is a coach, you have amber opportunities to meet with the locals onboard. who knows you may get new friends along the journey. If you intend to make more friends with the locals in Portugal, start to learn to speak their language i.e. Portuguese to at least learn to write some simple word like those below:-
Thank you - Obrigado (if you’re male) or Obrigada (if you’re female)
Please - Por favor
Good morning – Bom dia
Good afternoon – Boa tarde
Good evening – Boa noite
Yes - Sim
No - Não
Car hire
Among all the transportation options, perhaps this is the most challenging option. You can hire a car and drive along the cities of Portugal . Car hire companies can be found in all major towns of Portugal as well as at the international airports. To proceed with the hire of car, you must proof of identity with documents such as Identity Card for EC citizens and passport for other nationals. And a valid driving license. A green card is essential and it’s wise to take out insurance coverage and collision insurance. Cars can not be hired out to anyone under 21.
Driving
This is additional information you need if you choice to hire a car. All motor vehicles drive on the right. Certain local rules on the road are worth noting. Unless otherwise indicated on signboard or other means, vehicles approaching from the right have priority at junctions. Wearing of seat belts are obligatory. The law is strict regarding drinking and driving. The maximum speed in towns is 50 km per hour and on main roads and highways is 90 and 120 km per hour respectively. Petrol stations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. On highways services stations are open 24 hours a day.
